A group of fraudsters has allegedly created a fake WhatsApp account using the name and photo of Mirzapur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdullah Al Mamun to demand money from various individuals. The incident has caused concern in the Tangail upazila, prompting police to urge residents to remain alert. The scammers reportedly call people claiming that complaints or cases have been filed against them and then demand money in exchange for resolving the matter.

One victim, Nurul Islam Khan, a resident of Bawar Kumarjani area and an expatriate in Singapore, said he received such a call from a number using the OC’s name and photo. Suspicious of the caller’s behavior, he refused to share any information and later sent screenshots of the number to journalists. Local sources said a similar attempt was made earlier targeting former Mirzapur Press Club president Abul Kashem Khan.

OC Abdullah Al Mamun confirmed receiving complaints about the fake account and said police have begun investigating to identify and arrest those involved. Authorities have advised the public to verify any such calls and avoid financial transactions without confirmation.
