In a significant policy shift, the Election Commission (EC) has revoked the previous mandate that made Deputy Commissioners (DCs) and Upazila Executive Officers (UNOs) the heads of committees responsible for setting up polling stations. The revised guidelines return this authority to the EC’s field-level officials. Each polling station will now serve around 3,000 voters, with provisions for gender-specific arrangements. New centers can be established in response to voter growth or natural events like river erosion, following consultations with community leaders and political stakeholders. A three-kilometer gap between centers has been recommended for accessibility.
