Assistant Judge AKM Samiul Haque, 28, was killed in a road crash while returning to his workplace in Jamalpur after leave. The accident occurred around 4am on Monday in the Laherikanda area of Sadar upazila on the Jamalpur-Mymensingh highway. A private car carrying him struck the rear of a rod-laden truck standing beside the highway. Haque served as an assistant judge at the Islampur Amli Court under the Jamalpur Chief Judicial Magistrate Court.

Police and local sources said Haque had left Lalmatia in Dhaka for Jamalpur. The impact crushed the front of the private car, and rods from the truck entered the vehicle and pierced several parts of his body. The car driver, Idris Mia, was also seriously injured in the collision.

Police and Fire Service personnel rescued both men and took them to Jamalpur General Hospital, where a duty doctor declared Haque dead. Idris Mia was admitted to hospital and was reported to be in critical condition. Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Nazmul Sakib said legal action would be taken if a written complaint is filed. The district lawyers' association expressed grief and condolences.
