A third-grade student named Farzana Sultana, aged nine, was found dead inside a wardrobe drawer in Kaliganj upazila of Satkhira on Monday night. Police recovered the body from the home of a woman named Sumaiya, 26, who lived in the same area. Following the discovery, an enraged crowd beat Sumaiya to death at the scene. Police later arrived and brought the situation under control.

According to family and local sources, Farzana had gone to school in the morning but did not return home after classes ended. Her relatives searched for her and informed Kaliganj police when she could not be found. Acting on the report, police and locals conducted a search and discovered her body in Sumaiya’s house in the evening.

Locals suspect the murder was committed to steal the gold earrings the child was wearing. Kaliganj police have launched an investigation to determine the actual motive and have stated that legal action is being taken regarding the mob killing.
