BNP central organizing secretary Shama Obaid Islam Rinku has been elected from the Faridpur-2 (Saltha and Nagarkanda) constituency in the 13th national parliamentary election. According to results from 117 polling centers, she received 120,909 votes, defeating her nearest rival, Shah Md. Akram Ali of the 11-party alliance, who secured 87,956 votes. Shama Obaid won by a margin of 32,953 votes. Other candidates included Akramuzzaman of Insaniyat Biplob Bangladesh, Faruk Fakir of Gano Odhikar Parishad, Md. Nazmul Hasan of Bangladesh Congress, and Shah Md. Jamal Uddin of Islami Andolan Bangladesh.
The Faridpur-2 constituency is considered geographically significant, and voter enthusiasm was high following the election schedule announcement. Voting took place peacefully from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with results announced after 11:00 p.m. following the counting of all centers.
Shama Obaid Islam is the only daughter of former BNP secretary general and minister K.M. Obaidur Rahman, who served as a four-time member of parliament. This marks her first election victory as a member of parliament.
