Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer and Leader of the Opposition Dr. Shafiqur Rahman MP has called on all branches of the party and citizens across the country to commemorate the July Martyrs’ Day with deep respect and gratitude. In a statement issued to the media on Tuesday, he urged everyone to renew their pledge to build a just, democratic, and humane Bangladesh as a way to honor the sacrifices of the martyrs.

Dr. Rahman described July 16 as a significant and emotional day in the nation’s history, recalling those who gave their lives in the struggle against inequality and oppression. He referred to the 2024 quota reform movement, highlighting the death of Begum Rokeya University student Abu Sayeed, whose killing by police sparked a nationwide protest that eventually turned into a mass uprising.

He stated that the movement led to the fall of Sheikh Hasina’s government on August 5, 2024, and urged the nation to observe July Martyrs’ Day through discussions and prayers to uphold the ideals for which the martyrs sacrificed their lives.
