The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has called an emergency meeting of its Standing Committee on Monday night, November 17, at 8:30 PM at the party chairperson’s office in Gulshan, Dhaka. The meeting will be presided over by the party’s acting chairman, Tarique Rahman, according to BNP media cell member Shairul Kabir Khan. The meeting comes hours after the International Crimes Tribunal sentenced former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and ex-Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal to death for crimes against humanity. Former Inspector General of Police Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun received a five-year prison term after cooperating with the tribunal. The BNP leadership is expected to discuss the political implications of the verdicts and determine the party’s next course of action amid heightened national tension following the tribunal’s ruling.
