Ten cargo vessels were fined a total of one lakh taka for anchoring idly on the Meghna River and obstructing normal navigation. The fines were imposed on Tuesday through a mobile court led by BIWTA Executive Magistrate Neheru Nigar Tonu, as part of an operation to ensure safe and accident-free river transport.

According to the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA), the vessels had anchored in the navigation channel, creating barriers to regular vessel movement. The mobile court was conducted with the participation of officials from the Narayanganj Department of Naval Safety and Traffic Management, the Meghnaghat River Port office, traffic inspectors, and members of the river police, who provided full cooperation during the operation.

The initiative aimed to maintain navigational discipline and prevent accidents on the busy Meghna River route, reinforcing BIWTA’s ongoing efforts to improve river safety and traffic management.
