Newly elected Member of Parliament for Chandpur-4, Alhaj M A Hannan, announced that he will not take the parliamentary oath until his political party, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), formally accepts him. He made the statement on Saturday, February 14, at a press conference held at the Faridganj Press Club, emphasizing his desire to continue his political journey based on BNP’s ideology.

Hannan said he has followed the ideals of late President Ziaur Rahman since his student life and has always been involved in BNP politics. He alleged that a conspiratorial group had previously influenced the cancellation of his party nomination and attempted similar actions this time. However, he claimed victory as a people’s candidate with the united support of local residents and grassroots leaders. He also urged the administration to take strict action against post-election violence and misinformation by the defeated side.

Hannan was formerly the convener of the Upazila BNP but was expelled from all party positions for alleged disorder after being denied nomination. He contested as an independent candidate and won the election.
