The University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh has placed the private European University of Bangladesh on its red list. The decision was formalized in a letter signed by Dr. Md. Sultan Mahmud Bhuiyan, Director of Private University Management at the UGC, and the directive was published on Thursday. According to the UGC website, the university appears at serial number 52 among private universities, now marked with three red stars.

The UGC cited several reasons for the red listing, including ongoing ownership disputes and legal cases involving the university’s Board of Trustees, admission of students beyond the approved capacity, and operation of academic activities on a campus built on less land than required under the Private University Act, 2010, even after twelve years. The commission also noted that the university had not complied with directives from the Ministry of Education and the UGC.

Among 116 private universities in Bangladesh, three others are similarly marked with three red stars on the UGC website. The commission stated that such markings are intended to alert students to exercise caution when seeking admission.
