The Ministry of Shipping is exploring the potential of establishing a container terminal in Barisal to enhance maritime logistics. Advisor to the Ministry, Brigadier General (Retd.) M Sakhawat Hossain, shared this during a workshop in Kuakata. He also outlined a master plan to transform Payra Port into an environmentally friendly "green port" and encouraged both foreign and private investments in port development. Future plans include expanding rail connectivity and strengthening infrastructure links with Matarbari and Mongla ports. Although two additional terminals were planned through partnerships with neighboring countries, those developments are currently on hold.
