The Pabna District Chhatra Dal has issued a show-cause notice to Shafiqul Islam Sohel, joint convener of the Bhangura Upazila Chhatra Dal, for leading a protest demanding the release of a Jubo League leader detained by police. The notice, signed by district convener Md Kamruzzaman Prince and member secretary Md Saddam Hossain, was announced late Sunday night. Sohel has been asked to appear at the district office within 24 hours to provide a written explanation in the presence of the district leadership.

The action follows an incident on Friday evening when police arrested Ripon Sarkar, president of Ward No. 1 Jubo League in Parbhangura Union, on sabotage allegations. Later that night, Sohel led about 200 villagers in surrounding the Bhangura police station to demand Sarkar’s release. Police reportedly released the detainee into the villagers’ custody around 10:30 p.m.

Following the protest, Sohel’s public support for a leader from a banned organization sparked widespread discussion and criticism locally and in the media. District Chhatra Dal leaders said further organizational decisions will be made after reviewing his written explanation.
