BNP candidate Abul Khayer Bhuiyan has been unofficially declared the winner in the Lakshmipur-2 constituency, which includes Raipur and part of Sadar, during Bangladesh’s 13th National Parliamentary Election. He secured 145,913 votes, defeating his nearest rival, Jamaat-e-Islami candidate S.U.M. Ruhul Amin Bhuiyan, who received 134,042 votes. The result was announced on Thursday night, February 12, by Assistant Returning Officer and Raipur Upazila Executive Officer Mehedi Hasan Kawsar after counting results from all 151 polling centers.

According to the Returning Officer’s office, the constituency had a total of 493,970 registered voters, including 254,407 men, 239,558 women, and five hijra voters. Abul Khayer Bhuiyan, a former three-time Member of Parliament for Lakshmipur-2, previously served as an adviser to the late BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia. His closest competitor, Ruhul Amin Bhuiyan, is the district chief of Jamaat-e-Islami.

The unofficial result reinforces BNP’s presence in the region, with the final official declaration expected from the Election Commission following standard verification procedures.
