A Natore court has granted bail to a seven-year-old boy accused in an attempted murder case. The child, dressed in his school uniform, appeared before the Women and Children Court and applied for bail. Judge Muhammad Rafiqul Islam approved the bail on a bond of 500 taka under the custody of a lawyer and summoned the complainant, Shahanur Rahman, to appear on the next hearing date. The court verified the boy’s birth registration and determined his age to be seven years, seven months, and two days, expressing surprise that the police report had listed him as 21.

The defense lawyer stated that the complainant had intentionally misrepresented the boy’s age out of personal animosity. The child’s father said his son was in class during the incident, which the school headmaster confirmed in writing. The complainant later admitted that the age listed in the case was an estimate and declined further comment when informed of the child’s true age.

Police officials said the false age information was provided by the complainant and confirmed that the boy’s name would be removed from the case after investigation.
