National Citizen Party (NCP) spokesperson Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan has alleged that fans of former Awami League MP and cricketer Shakib Al Hasan formed a mob at the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to file complaints. He made the remarks on Friday evening after an iftar gathering organized by the NCP in Shyampur, Dhaka.

Asif Mahmud said the fans acted out because Shakib was not allowed to play. He explained that during the movement period, he decided Shakib had no moral right to represent Bangladesh as the player had opposed the July uprising and supported Sheikh Hasina. He added that if barring someone from playing is considered corruption, he is ready to face punishment.

Earlier at the event, Asif Mahmud stated that the NCP aims to build new politics by addressing civic issues and is conducting regular outreach ahead of the upcoming local government elections. He expressed optimism that the party’s six elected MPs will bring vitality to parliament and continue working for the people with public support.
