Two separate courts in Tangail sentenced two men to death on Wednesday in unrelated murder cases. District and Sessions Judge Md. Hafizur Rahman handed down the death penalty to Nazirul Islam, 28, for the 2020 killing of Mehedi Mostafa in Bhuapur upazila. On the same day, Special Judge Dilara Alo Chandana sentenced Sohrab Hossain to death for the 2011 murders of Hajera Bewa and her daughter Nasrin Akter in Delduar upazila.

According to prosecutors, Nazirul Islam fatally stabbed Mehedi Mostafa on June 18, 2020, following a dispute over picking mangoes. He later confessed to the crime, and after testimony from 15 witnesses, the court imposed the death sentence and a fine of 100,000 taka. In the Delduar case, Hajera Bewa and her daughter were found dead in a jute field near their home on May 6, 2011, after going missing the previous night. Police later charged three suspects, but only Sohrab Hossain was convicted, while two others were acquitted.

Following the verdicts, both convicts were sent to Tangail District Jail.
