Bangladesh’s cabinet discussed raising salaries for private-sector employees alongside approval of the National Pay Scale 2026, Cabinet Secretary Dr Nasimul Gani said on Monday. He made the remarks while answering journalists’ questions at a press briefing held in the Information Ministry’s PID conference room after a cabinet meeting.

Gani said the discussion covered pay increases at private industries and other institutions, but no specific decision was made. He noted that many private-sector institutions increase salaries by 5 or 7 percent annually. Several employers who are members of the cabinet also took part in the discussion.

Earlier, the government approved the National Pay Scale 2026 to make government employees’ salaries, allowances and other financial benefits more reasonable and up to date. The new scale retains the existing 20 grades for government employees while revising their basic salaries.
