A delegation from the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (International IDEA) met with Bangladesh’s Leader of the Opposition and Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman MP, at his parliamentary office on Monday afternoon. The meeting took place at the National Parliament and was led by Lina Rikkila Tamang, Director for Asia and the Pacific at International IDEA. Sumit Bisarya, Head of the Constitutional Governance and Rule of Law Programme, was also part of the visiting team.

According to Jamaat sources, the meeting was held in a cordial and friendly atmosphere. Discussions covered the effectiveness of Bangladesh’s National Parliament, the “July Charter,” and other matters of mutual interest. The visiting delegation expressed willingness to support efforts to strengthen democracy and institutional integrity in Bangladesh. Dr. Rahman highlighted Jamaat’s historical role in building a stable and democratic Bangladesh and reaffirmed the party’s commitment to implementing the July Charter and referendum verdict.

Dhaka-12 MP Saiful Alam Khan Milon and Ali Ahmad Mabrur, a member of the opposition leader’s foreign affairs advisory team, were also present during the meeting.
