The abduction case linked to the disappearance and killing of former Jhenaidah lawmaker Anwarul Islam Anar has not been converted into a murder case after two years, the report said. Anar’s daughter, Mumtarin Ferdous Dorin, filed the abduction case at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police station in Dhaka. The report said Anar was killed in Kolkata, India, on May 13, 2024.

According to the report, six arrested suspects gave confessional statements, but the case classification was not changed and a DNA report was not collected. Detective police detained several people, including Shimul Bhuiyan, Tanvir Bhuiyan, Shilasti Rahman, Saidul Karim Mintu and Kazi Kamal Ahmed. Faisal and Mostafiz were detained in Khagrachhari, while Jihad and Siam were arrested in India and Nepal and remain in custody.

Anar travelled to India for treatment on May 12 and stayed at a friend’s home in Baranagar, Kolkata, before going missing. Reports of his killing emerged on May 22 from a residential building in New Town, though no body was found there. The article cited Indian media and West Bengal CID statements saying DNA from recovered human flesh matched Dorin. Jhenaidah court public prosecutor Mashiur Rahman said police must eventually submit an investigation report to court.
