BNP categorically opposes any form of proportional representation (PR) system, said senior party leader Salahuddin Ahmed. Speaking to the press following a meeting with the National Consensus Commission at the Foreign Service Academy on July 15, he stated that while discussions were held on the concept of a bicameral legislature, consensus on its structure and function remains elusive.
He noted that BNP had proposed a 100-member upper house based on their 31-point framework to ensure representation from diverse social and professional groups. However, some parties questioned the necessity of a second chamber. Constitutional reforms were also a key point of discussion at the meeting.
