BNP Chairperson Tarique Rahman stated that his government’s foreign policy will be guided primarily by Bangladesh’s national and public interests. Speaking at a press conference at the InterContinental Hotel ballroom on Saturday, he emphasized that decisions on foreign relations will be made by keeping the country’s welfare at the forefront. He also noted that convincing the people was the key to his party’s electoral success, describing it as their form of political ‘engineering.’
BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury elaborated that the party follows the principle of multilateralism, avoiding any country-centric policy and focusing on mutual respect, mutual interest, non-interference, and strategic autonomy for Bangladesh. Rahman identified key challenges for the new government, including revitalizing the economy, ensuring law and order, and restoring good governance after what he described as institutional politicization under the previous regime.
He added that the government would strengthen regional cooperation through SAARC, maintain balanced relations with all countries including China, and ensure equal application of the law. Rahman also reaffirmed commitments to youth, women, and persons with disabilities as outlined in the party’s manifesto.
