Israeli Energy Minister Eli Cohen said Israel currently controls about 70 percent of the Gaza Strip and should establish “full control” over the entire territory. He made the remarks on Sunday, according to the report.

Cohen also claimed that no agreement currently exists to stop attacks in Gaza. He opposed a possible US-mediated arrangement with Hamas, saying he was against the proposed deal. The report said the discussed proposal was expected to include the disarmament of Hamas.

Earlier, Israel’s far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir described the draft agreement as “unacceptable.” The successive positions taken by senior Israeli government figures have created renewed uncertainty over the future of diplomatic efforts aimed at resolving the continuing conflict centered on Gaza.
