Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser’s Press Wing has dismissed Indian media and officials’ claims that the vandalism at Rabindranath Tagore’s ancestral estate in Shahjadpur, Sirajganj, was a communal attack. The statement termed the portrayal by Indian politicians and Hindutva social media accounts as ‘false and politically motivated.’ Earlier, India’s Ministry of External Affairs expressed concern, calling the incident part of an extremist attempt to erase Bangladesh’s cultural diversity. Indian politicians, including Uttarakhand’s Chief Minister and BJP MPs, have also made allegations linking the attack to Islamist groups.
