Four people, including a five-year-old child, were killed after a Dhaka-bound oil tanker truck struck them in Brahmangram area of Osmaninagar, Sylhet, on Saturday at about 2:30pm. The crash occurred on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway. Three other people were seriously injured, though their identities were not immediately available.
The deceased were identified as Md Lalon Mia, 26, of Sherpur Majherbari in Osmaninagar; Md Niamat, 45, of Sriramshi in Jagannathpur; Usufa Begum, 30, from the same area; and Niamat’s daughter Aysa Akhtar, aged five. Osmaninagar police investigation officer Zainal Abedin confirmed that four people died in the accident.
Police and local residents rescued the dead and injured and sent them to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital for treatment. The report said at least seven people, including women and children, were injured in a head-on collision between a private car and an ambulance in the same Kashikapon area on August 17. Residents have expressed alarm and dissatisfaction over frequent accidents there.
