Police in Fatullah, Narayanganj, have arrested Salauddin Ahmed, president of the Enayetnagar Union unit of the Awami League, in connection with a murder case related to the anti-discrimination movement. The arrest took place on Sunday afternoon at his residence in Panchbati, following a tip-off. Salauddin Ahmed is known as a close associate of former Narayanganj-4 MP Shamim Osman.
Local sources said Salauddin, who is the brother-in-law of Fatullah Thana Awami League president Saifullah Badol, had long been accused of extortion, violent activities, and exerting dominance in the area. After a political change on August 5, he reportedly went into hiding but recently returned to assume the role of acting chairman of the union council.
Officer-in-Charge Mahbub Alam stated that Salauddin had been under surveillance since the fall of the previous government and was detained based on specific intelligence. Police operations against leaders and activists of related organizations are ongoing and will continue.
