Residents detained three men allegedly carrying locally made weapons at South Goala Bazar, the main commercial centre of Osmaninagar upazila in Sylhet, on Sunday evening, August 2. Police from Osmaninagar police station later arrived at the scene and took the detainees into custody after being informed by local people. The incident occurred at about 6pm, according to the report.

The detainees were identified as Shipon Ahmad, 38, son of Abdul Jalil of Nij Burunga village in Osmaninagar; Roman Chowdhury, 25, son of Dula Chowdhury of the same village; and Md Masud Rana Nirob, 30, son of the late Md Sultan Mia of Phulbaria upazila in Mymensingh. Police and local sources said residents stopped the men while they were allegedly staying in the market area suspiciously and searched them.

Police said locally made weapons were recovered during the search and seized after the three men were handed over. They were taken to Osmaninagar police station and remain in police custody. Officer-in-Charge Gazi Mostafa Ahmad confirmed the matter, saying the detainees are being questioned and legal action is being processed.
