BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has sharply criticized the long-standing impunity surrounding the assassination of former President Ziaur Rahman, following the recent arrest of Major Mozzaffar Hossain, one of the convicted killers. Speaking on Tuesday at a memorial prayer for former Jubo Dal vice president Zakir Hossain Nannu in Dhaka’s Naya Paltan, Rizvi asked who had sheltered Mozzaffar both at home and abroad during the past 45 years.

Rizvi called for a full investigation into the events surrounding that period, mentioning that Kader Siddiqui had taken refuge abroad and was armed, questioning who had used him against the army. He recalled the November 7 revolution, describing BNP and its affiliated organizations as its offspring, born to establish multiparty democracy and freedom of speech. He urged party members to remain steadfast, citing the return of the party chairperson and assumption of the prime minister’s office as proof that sacrifice is never in vain.

Rizvi also praised current government initiatives such as the expansion of the Family Card program and introduction of the Farmer Card, saying their benefits would soon reach ordinary people.
