A woman named Lamia Islam was detained at Jahangirnagar University on Sunday, June 21, 2026, for allegedly stealing clothes, fish, and meat from female dormitories while disguised as a student wearing a burqa. The incident occurred around 11:30 a.m. at the university’s Shaheed Felani Khatun Hall and Begum Rokeya Hall. Students caught her in the act and handed her over to the police after filing a case.
According to hall authorities and eyewitnesses, the woman entered the dormitory area pretending to talk on her phone and took advantage of the increased student presence during the new academic session. She was first noticed when she attempted to take cosmetics and clothing from a student’s room. Upon questioning, her inconsistent behavior led students to detain her and recover stolen items from her bag.
Police later found additional bags containing clothes and food items taken from various rooms. The hall provost confirmed that staff members were sent to the police station to file a case, and the suspect was taken into custody for further legal action.
