A five-year-old child, Ardashi Tanchangya, died after choking while playing on a swing made from a towel at her home in Paglipara of Wagga Union, Kaptai Upazila, Rangamati. The incident occurred at about 5 pm on Monday. Ardashi was the daughter of local resident Tapan Bikash Tanchangya.

Kaptai police station officer-in-charge Sheikh Mahmudul Hasan Rubel said Ardashi had been playing in the towel swing inside her home, as she did regularly. Her parents were in the hills for jhum cultivation work at the time. Police said the towel accidentally became wrapped around her neck while she was playing, leaving her seriously ill from suffocation.

Her elder sister noticed the situation and, with help from local people, took her quickly to Kaptai Upazila Health Complex. Health and Family Planning Officer Dr Ruihla Ang Marma said the child was brought to the hospital around 6 pm and was declared dead after examination; she had died before arrival. Police visited the scene, and necessary legal procedures are under way.
