Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has sought newspaper editors’ cooperation in the ongoing work to formulate policies for independent media and journalists. He made the request during a meeting with leaders of the National Editors Council at the Prime Minister’s Office in the Cabinet Division at Bangladesh Secretariat on Monday, July 27, 2026. Deputy Press Secretary Md. Sujauddin Daula, also known as Sujon Mahmud, provided the information.
The prime minister also called on editors to present the government’s positive activities properly alongside constructive criticism of the government. He said the policy-making work for independent media and journalists is continuing and asked for editors’ assistance in that process.
An eight-member delegation attended the meeting, led by National Editors Council convener and Jaijaidin editor Shafik Rehman, and joint convener and Amar Desh editor Mahmudur Rahman. The delegation included editors Maruf Kamal Khan Sohel, Salahuddin Muhammad Babar, Abdul Hai Shikdar, as well as National Press Club president Hasan Hafiz, Wada editor Shafiqul Alam and Manabkantha editor Shahidul Islam.
