Police in Belabo, Narsingdi, have arrested Shyamal Pradhan, son of Belabo Upazila Awami League senior vice-president Alauddin Pradhan, in connection with the death of former Amlab Union Sramik League general secretary Md. Jagat Mia, aged 50. The arrest followed a murder case filed on Monday, January 19, by the victim’s wife, Asiya Begum, naming Shyamal and his brother Ujjal Pradhan as accused. The case was registered as number 12 at Belabo Police Station.

According to the case details, on Sunday, January 18, an argument broke out at Pahar Ujilab Bazar over a business dispute involving a fiber-tech enterprise. During the altercation, Shyamal allegedly grabbed Jagat Mia by the collar and punched him in the chest, after which he fell ill and was later declared dead at Baraicha Jagat Life Hospital. Following the death, relatives of the deceased attacked Shyamal’s house, setting a kitchen on fire and damaging furniture. Police and army personnel intervened to restore order.

Belabo Police Station Officer-in-Charge SM Amanullah confirmed that one person had been arrested and sent to court in connection with the case.
