A Dhaka court has again deferred the charge-framing hearing in an Arms Act case against former law minister Anisul Haque, setting September 24 as the new date. Judge Moin Uddin Chowdhury of Dhaka’s Fourth Special Tribunal fixed the date on Sunday afternoon, August 23, 2026. Haque was produced before the court from prison for the hearing.

Defence lawyer Suman Hossain said Haque had a licensed pistol, but documents related to it were lost during the July movement of 2024. He said efforts were under way to obtain duplicate copies of the papers. The defence sought more time because the documents could not be collected, and the court allowed the request. The charge-framing hearing had previously been postponed three times.

According to the case allegations, a gazette notification issued on August 25, 2024 suspended licences for firearms issued for personal security between January 6, 2009 and August 5, 2024. Licensed weapons and ammunition were ordered to be deposited by September 3, 2024. Police said no information was found that Haque or a representative deposited the firearm or informed Banani police. A Banani police sub-inspector filed the case on May 24 under Section 19(1) of the Arms Act.
