A police officer was seriously injured after alleged drug dealers attacked an anti-drug operation in Lahuria Bazar of Lohagara upazila, Narail. The incident occurred at about 7:30pm on Sunday, August 9, when a four-member team led by Sub-Inspector Md Khokon Hawlader raided Shyamal’s tea shop at Magura bus stand on the basis of confidential information.

Police said that while Harun was being searched, alleged yaba dealers Harun, Kamal, Shyamal and Akidul, along with 10 to 12 others present at the shop, indiscriminately beat and hacked SI Khokon with locally made weapons. During the incident, 12 to 13 drug users allegedly seized an estimated 300 to 400 yaba tablets from Harun and quickly left the area.

Members of the accompanying force and local market people rescued the injured officer and sent him to Lohagara Hospital, where he remains under treatment. Duty doctor Saidulla Himel said the officer is out of danger. Lohagara police station Officer-in-Charge Md Abdur Rahman said efforts were under way to arrest the attackers.
