Detective Branch (DB) police of Barishal Metropolitan Police recovered 66 kilograms of cannabis during an anti-drug operation in the city. Acting on a tip-off, officers conducted the raid around 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 9, at the residence of alleged drug dealer Saidul in the KDC Balur Math area of Razzak Smriti Colony, Ward No. 10.
Inspector Sagir Hossain of the Metropolitan DB Police confirmed the operation, stating that the raid targeted Saidul Islam, a known drug seller in the KDC slum area. However, Saidul fled before the raid began. During a subsequent search of his house, police found the cannabis. Authorities reported that Saidul Islam and Nilufa Yasmin Nilu, daughter of the late Alamgir Sardar, had jointly imported the drugs.
A case under the Narcotics Control Act is being prepared, and efforts are ongoing to arrest Saidul and Nilufa, who remain at large.
