BNP-nominated candidate Nasir Uddin Chowdhury is on course for a sweeping victory in Shalla upazila of Sunamganj, according to unofficial results published on February 12, 2026. From 37 polling centers, Nasir Uddin has secured a total of 31,405 votes, leading his closest rival, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Advocate Shishir Monir, by 9,752 votes. Monir, who contested under the scale symbol, received 21,653 votes. Reports indicate that Nasir Uddin, a noted organizer of the Liberation War, has achieved a landslide win in 105 of 111 centers across Dirai and Shalla upazilas.
Before the final results were officially announced, Shishir Monir extended his congratulations to Nasir Uddin through a Facebook post, offering floral greetings and acknowledging his opponent’s success. The gesture drew attention as a rare show of sportsmanship between rival political candidates.
The unofficial results suggest a decisive victory for the BNP in the area, with formal confirmation expected once all centers’ results are declared.
