A police officer-in-charge (OC) has been withdrawn following the custodial suicide of 27-year-old Durjoy Chowdhury at Chakaria Police Station in Cox’s Bazar. OC Shafiqul Islam was removed from his post after earlier disciplinary action saw an ASI and two constables transferred to district lines. An inquiry committee headed by Additional Superintendent of Police Md. Jasim Uddin has been formed to investigate the incident. Meanwhile, Chakaria Government High School headmistress Rabeya Khanam, who had handed Durjoy over to police on allegations of embezzlement, has been made OSD (Officer on Special Duty). The Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education has formed a three-member probe committee led by the regional director in Chattogram. Assistant Superintendent of Police Abhijit Das confirmed that two suicide notes were found in Durjoy’s trouser pocket.
