Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto has defended wicketkeeper-batter Litton Das after he scored ducks in all three innings of the Test series against Australia. Bangladesh drew the series 1-1 but suffered an innings-and-51-run defeat in the second Test at Mackay. Speaking after that match, Shanto said Litton should not be judged solely on three scoreless innings.

Shanto said Litton had recently played several outstanding innings that helped the team and described his role at number six as highly effective and important for Bangladesh. He also noted that batters can be dismissed quickly by good deliveries in difficult conditions. The captain maintained his confidence in Litton despite the batter’s poor run in the series.

Shanto said Bangladesh should learn from the tour and move forward, with attention now turning to the upcoming South Africa tour. He reflected on the win in Darwin, saying he later realised its significance while watching events from the dugout and slips. Shanto said Bangladesh now have major victories over New Zealand and Australia in their own conditions and expressed hope of achieving the same in South Africa.
