A mobile court in Lalpur upazila of Natore sentenced a man to three months of imprisonment and fined him 100 taka for assaulting his mother after she refused to give him money for drugs. The incident occurred in the Walia area, where the accused, Md. Al-Amin Hossain, 23, was detained by police while under the influence of drugs. His mother, Rehena Begum, filed a complaint at the Walia police outpost on Monday.

According to Walia police sub-inspector Sohel Mahmud, Al-Amin was arrested during a midday operation. Lalpur police officer-in-charge Shafiqul Islam stated that Al-Amin had been addicted to drugs for a long time and often forced his mother to give him money. On the day of the incident, he physically assaulted her when she refused.

The mobile court subsequently handed down the sentence, aiming to address the recurring issue of drug-related domestic violence in the area.
