A cargo ship was struck about 20 nautical miles northeast of Oman’s Khasab coast, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations agency said on August 4, 2026. The incident occurred roughly 37 kilometres from the coast, according to the agency, which reported that authorities were investigating the object that hit the vessel.
UKMTO did not immediately provide information on whether the ship sustained major damage or whether there were any casualties. It said the nature of the object involved in the strike remained under investigation.
The agency advised other vessels in the area to navigate with caution and to report any suspicious activity promptly. Waters around Oman form an important international commercial shipping route, and concerns over the security of maritime traffic in the region have increased recently.
