Jagannath University Central Students’ Union, Jokshu, condemned and protested an alleged attack by Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal on general students and Jokshu leaders. In a statement reported on August 4, 2026, Jokshu said students entered an auditorium with placards to press for faster implementation of the second-campus project, transfer of project work to the army, temporary housing for 1,600 students on seven acres, and improvements to the university medical center.
According to the statement, Chhatra Dal members and proctorial body members took away the placards and forced the students out of the auditorium. Students later held a peaceful sit-in outside the Shaheed Ikramul Haque Sajid Building, where Jokshu Vice President Riazul Islam, General Secretary Abdul Alim Arif and other leaders expressed solidarity with their demands. Jokshu said the proctor ordered the protesters to leave and threatened their forcible removal.
Jokshu alleged that Chhatra Dal activists then launched a surprise attack, damaged a hand microphone and used locally made weapons against students, including women and leaders of several student groups. It said Riazul Islam was injured and Abdul Alim Arif suffered a serious head injury. The union said violence and intimidation could not suppress students’ legitimate demands or democratic voices.
