Haridas Chandra Tarani Das, also known as Tawhid Islam, has been sent to Mymensingh jail in a new fraud case. The Mymensingh Joint District and Sessions Judge (Finance and Loan) Court ordered his detention after showing him arrested in a pending fraud case where he had previously been sentenced to one year in prison. He was earlier arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on July 12 from Palashbari, Gaibandha, in a money laundering case involving suspicious transactions worth about Tk 9.35 crore.

According to the report, Haridas began his career repairing old air conditioners in Uttara, Dhaka, after returning from India in 2010. He later converted to Islam, married in Fulbaria, and became known for alleged fraud, property accumulation, and influence in local affairs. Authorities and locals have accused him of using political connections and misusing photos with former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to gain influence.

CID’s Financial Crime Unit is currently investigating the legality of his assets, including bank accounts, mobile financial transactions, land, and a luxury resort in Fulbaria. Victims of alleged fraud have announced a human chain protest in front of Mymensingh Press Club.
