A four-year-old boy named Saeedul Alam Sami died after allegedly drinking acid-contaminated water from a betel shop in Hnila area of Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar. The incident occurred on April 9 when Sami, a nursery student of Ideal Academy and High School, went to a nearby tea stall and was given battery acid water by a man named Kajol. After falling seriously ill, he was treated at several hospitals, including Chittagong Medical College Hospital, where he died on Monday morning after two and a half months of treatment.

Family sources said multiple surgeries were performed on Sami, but his condition did not improve. A local arbitration initially provided Tk 15,000 for treatment, but the family later spent around Tk 800,000 in total. Sami’s father, Shamsul Alam, accused two men, Kamal and Kajol, of intentionally giving his son acid water and said he plans to file a police case. The child’s uncle also demanded justice for the incident.

Teknaf Model Police Station’s officer-in-charge Saiful Islam stated that an investigation would be launched if a formal complaint is received.
