Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) conducted a series of operations against passengers arriving on multiple flights at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on August 15, seizing gold and other illegal goods. Airport C-shift officers, acting on secret information, seized 133 grams of gold, 2,589 pieces of conditionally importable medicine, 51 cartons of cigarettes, 31 kilograms of prohibited cream, 708 pieces of prohibited serum and six litres of foreign liquor. The estimated market value of the seized goods was Tk 4.288 million.

On SriLankan Airlines flight UL189 from Colombo to Dhaka, officers detained passenger Md Parvez after he crossed the green channel. They recovered 133 grams of gold concealed in a specially made compartment of his trolley and 2,589 pieces of medicine hidden in his luggage. He failed to provide the required permits and documents for importing the medicines. The gold, medicines and related goods were seized, with an estimated value of Tk 3 million.

In separate searches, officers recovered six litres of Grants-brand foreign liquor from Air India flight AI237 passenger Johnny Mia. They also found 29 cartons of cigarettes and 708 pieces of Pakistani whitening serum in the baggage of Md Mizanur Rahman, who arrived on Emirates flight EK0586. A further operation recovered 30 kilograms of import-prohibited Gouri cream from US-Bangla Airlines flight BS316 passenger Suma Begum.
