Beginning in August, the government will provide 30 kilograms of rice per month to 5.5 million poor and low-income families for six months, announced Food Adviser Ali Imam Majumder. The rice will be sold at a subsidized rate of Tk 15 per kilogram under the government's food-friendly program.
The rice distribution will occur in two phases: from August to November, and again in February and March, with a pause in December and January. To mitigate the impact of recent floods, the government plans to import 400,000 metric tons of rice and has instructed the Ministry of Commerce to facilitate the import of an additional 500,000 metric tons through private channels.
