BNP candidate Shahidul Islam Khan Babul has been unofficially declared the winner in the Faridpur-4 constituency during Bangladesh’s 13th National Parliamentary Election. The announcement was made around midnight by Abdullah Abu Zaher, the assistant returning officer and Upazila Nirbahi Officer of Bhanga, from the election result collection and dissemination hall room. According to the unofficial results, Babul received 60,775 votes in Bhanga, 48,202 in Sadarpur, and 17,555 in Charbhadrasan, defeating his nearest rival, Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Maulana Sarwar Hossain, by more than 51,000 votes.
This victory marks a historic moment for the BNP, as Babul became the only candidate from the party to win with the “sheaf of paddy” symbol in this election. Previously, BNP candidates in this constituency had failed to secure victory against nominees from the Awami League and Jatiya Party. Bhanga Upazila BNP president Alhaj Khondaker Iqbal Hossain Selim described the result as a victory for democracy and expressed gratitude to all voters.
The result, though unofficial, positions Babul as a significant figure in BNP’s electoral performance in the 13th parliamentary polls.
