England secured a crucial five-wicket victory over Scotland in a Group C match of the T20 World Cup at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. After losing their previous match to the West Indies, England needed a win to remain in contention for the Super Eight stage. Chasing Scotland’s 152, England reached 155 for five in 18.2 overs, led by Tom Banton’s unbeaten 63 off 41 balls. Jacob Bethell contributed 32, while Adil Rashid took three wickets earlier to restrict Scotland.
Scotland had posted 152 all out in 19.4 overs after being sent in to bat. Richie Berrington scored 48 off 32 balls and opener Michael Jones added 33 from 20 deliveries. Despite early pressure when Phil Salt and Jos Buttler fell quickly, England recovered through partnerships between Bethell and Banton, followed by steady support from Sam Curran and Will Jacks.
With this win, England moved to second place in Group C with four points from three matches, behind West Indies, who lead with four points from two games. Scotland remain third with two points from three matches.
