A Jhenaidah court sentenced Al-Amin Patowari to death and his father, Yunuch Ali Patowari, to life imprisonment for the murder of farmer Nayeb Ali in Maliat village of Kaliganj. District and Sessions Judge Masud Ali delivered the verdict on Thursday afternoon. Al-Amin was fined Tk50,000 and Yunuch Ali, 56, was fined Tk20.

According to state prosecutor Akidul Islam, Nayeb Ali was beaten to death on May 28, 2025, following a dispute over land. The victim’s son, Billal Hossain, filed a case at Kaliganj police station, naming three people and accusing an additional two or three unidentified individuals.

Police submitted a charge sheet against Yunuch Ali and Al-Amin on August 18, 2025. After hearing evidence and arguments from both sides over seven working days, the court issued the sentences. The victim’s family demanded the swift implementation of the verdict, while prosecutor Akidul Islam said the prosecution was satisfied with the ruling.
