United States Ambassador to Bangladesh Brent T. Christensen met with Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, the Leader of the Opposition and Amir of Jamaat-e-Islami, at the opposition leader’s office in the National Parliament building on Tuesday. The meeting was described as cordial and friendly, with embassy officials Eric Gillan, Political and Economic Counselor, and Hermanochi Bernard, Political Officer, also in attendance.

During the discussion, both sides exchanged views on the post-election political and economic situation in Bangladesh, the upcoming national budget, prospects for bilateral trade and investment, and various aspects of Bangladesh–US relations. They also discussed the development of democratic institutions, good governance, economic cooperation, and regional and international contemporary issues.

Both parties expressed their expectation to further strengthen the existing relationship based on mutual respect, cooperation, and understanding. The opposition leader’s foreign affairs adviser Barrister Mir Ahmad Bin Kasem Arman MP and team member Ali Ahmad Mabrur were also present at the meeting.
