Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has called on world leaders to take swift action to stop escalating attacks by Israeli forces and settlers in the occupied West Bank. The Palestinian presidency confirmed the appeal in a statement reported on July 27, 2026.

Abbas sent letters to leaders of several Arab and European countries, the European Union, the Arab League secretary-general, the president of the UN Security Council, and Palestine's mission to the United Nations. He said a “dangerous escalation” was underway in the occupied Palestinian territory and that violence was no longer confined to isolated incidents.

According to Abbas, the Israeli government is pursuing a planned policy aimed at creating new realities through settlement expansion, increased violence, and weakening the Palestinian Authority. He nevertheless reaffirmed his belief in comprehensive peace based on a two-state solution. Abbas called for international protection for Palestinians and for international intervention to implement UN Security Council Resolution 2334, which declared Israeli settlement construction in Palestinian territory illegal.
