Bangladesh Army chief General Waker-Uz-Zaman formally inaugurated the Army International Islamic Institute, a new army-run educational institution, on Monday in the Jalshiri housing project area of the capital. At the same event, he unveiled foundation stones by video teleconference for planned institutes in Barishal, Savar, Bogura, Sylhet, Chattogram, Cumilla and Jashore.

Organisers said the Bangladesh Army has contributed to improving the country’s education system and developing human resources by operating quality educational institutions since its establishment. They said the new institute was created to combine modern education with values-based learning and to develop citizens with knowledge, morality, leadership qualities and humanitarian values.

The institute is expected to provide a modern English-medium education system based on the Cambridge curriculum alongside religious and moral values-based education. Speakers expressed hope that it would become a centre for education, ideals and religious-moral development, preparing students with knowledge, discipline, patriotism and humanitarian values. Principal staff officers from Army Headquarters, general officers commanding from divisions, senior military officers, teachers, students, guardians and media workers attended the inauguration.
